Beware the Price Thieves

One thing to be aware of if you are living, or indeed holidaying, on the Costa del Sol are the shops that do not price any of their stock!

There may be an underhand reason for this. To make up prices as they go along. It seems that some of these shops have one price for tourists and another for people living here and my advice to you is to AVOID THESE SHOPS. If people continue to shop in these shops then these people will continue to rip off foreigners.

I have had first hand experience of this myself. I was shopping at a market place standing next to a Spanish lady who had more or less bought the same produce as me, if not more. Yet when I came to pay I was charged €3.50 more than her. As we walked away, I realised this and went back to ask the guy on the stall 'why'? When I spoke to him in fluent Spanish, he became very flustered and refused to answer my question.

This also happened in a shop in Fuengirola on the beach front. I asked the price of a football shirt in Spanish (due to my red hair many people assume I am Spanish). The guy in the shop gave me the price and we went off to have a coffee. When my son walked back into the shop to pay for the shirt (he's blonde) he was told a different price - a difference of €10.

SO PLEASE, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS HAPPENS, AND BE CAUTIOUS OF SHOPS THAT DO NOT HAVE PRICES DISPLAYED AS THEIR AIM COULD BE TO RIP YOU OFF!
